I am an advanced somatic practitioner. I started as a massage practitioner in 1995 with pregnant and postpartum moms and babies. I have integrated many bodywork modalities into my practice, and received indepth training in working families that have babies. It is important that bodywork consumers completely understand the breadth of my scope, especially how to choose a treatment. I work with adults and families with babies and children. The bodywork I offer povides:
Relief ~ Recovery ~ Resiliency
I am a licensed massage therapist in the State of Virginia since 2008, License number 0019007316, and a Board Certified Massage Therapist with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork since 1995, certification number 36865-00. I am a member of the Associated Massage and Bodywork Professionals. You can find descriptions of all my bodywork modalities in their glossary. I am certified in:
As a bodyworker, I have studied many years to understand the impact of the developing nervous system, especially prenatal and perinatal patterns. This includes pregnancy, birth and attachment. I have many hours of training and experience in these courses. I blend modalities: nervous system regulation practices like Somatic Experiencing, massage, myofascial release, biodynamic craniosacral therapy, and understanding the function of the nervous system. I have received approximately 1000 hours of training in this approach, plus hundreds of hours of supervision.
It is important for families with newborns who are having breastfeeding difficulties to be assessed by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. The rigor and professionalism they represent is the best support you can get for you and your baby. I refer to IBCLCs, and work in collaboration with your pediatric team to make sure you get the best care for your baby. I also refer to osteopaths for expertise I deem beyond my skill level. Baby bodywork sessions often take three-six sessions before you see results, therefore I sell inexpensive packages of 3 sessions.
I am not a medical doctor, nurse, or mental health professional. I do not diagnose conditions. I have a somatic, present time approach to what I do, and refer to medical professionals, psychotherapists, licensed social workers, nurse practitioners, osteopaths, chiropractors, and lactation consultants.
